After many years working in the agricultural industry and as an independent soil and fetiliser consultant, Wise Earth founder John Ferens began to find an ever increasing number of smaller landowners and 'Lifestyle Blockers' asking for the same 'one-on-one' service that he gave to large commercial farmers. However the excessive expense of driving many kilometres to carry out essential soil sampling for each farmer put this out of the reach for so many small farmers.
The only solution seemed to be for the farmers to take the soil samples themselves, but at the time this required a professional soil auger to give accurate test samples, and these were large, like a spade, and too expensive to buy.
Necessity being the mother of invention, John founded Wise Earth Solutions and with a number of colleagues and clients, the team applied their collective ingenuity to the problem. The result was the Wise Earth “Dirt Dagger” Soil Test Tool, the country’s first Do-It-Yourself soil sampler.
