Soil Testing Tools
A professional soil consultant uses a special tool to extract a soil sample (called a ‘Plug’) from the ground. The tool provides a cylindrical plug (25mm diam) with parallel sides to the required depth of the soil. (75mm for pasture, 150mm for cropping.) This tool is waist high (like a spade) and entails using the weight of the foot to push the tool into the earth. Soil sampling is not a difficult task which, as long as simple instructions are adhered to, anyone can do. The problem is getting one of these large soil sampling tools to the farm to be tested. This is where the Dirt Dagger© comes in.
The Dirt Dagger© is a version of the professional soil consultant’s tool, redesigned to make its use simpler, and small enough to fit into a mail bag.
Now soil sampling becomes a simple DO-IT-YOURSELF job with results as good as a professional’s.
